1. ANSYS Workbench Beam Shell Structure Spectral Analysis (1) Beam Shell Modeling

Spectral analysis is a method for calculating the response of structures under various frequency transient excitations. This analysis involves excitations such as earthquakes and aircraft noise. This article takes the beam shell structure as an example to provide a detailed introduction to the spectral analysis method of ANSYS Workbench. When the aspect ratio of the structure exceeds 10, the stress along the length direction becomes the main analysis object, and the cross-section remains unchanged. At this time, beam elements can be applied. In ANSYS Workbench, Timoshenko beam elements are used by default, including Beam188 elements without intermediate nodes and Beam189 elements with intermediate nodes. The shell elements include Shell181 elements without intermediate nodes and Shell281 elements with intermediate nodes. The 3D model and related parameters of the beam shell structure used in this case are shown in the figure. The model framework is simulated using Beam188 elements, and the outer surface is simulated using Shell181 elements. The total weight of the structure is 1600kg, and the mass of other accessories is evenly distributed on the frame during analysis. The boundary conditions are 6 degrees of freedom (Remote Displacement) at the bottom of the 4 columns of the constraint framework. The detailed modeling process is as follows:

(1) There are multiple methods for modeling beam elements. In this case, the point → line method is used for modeling. A TXT document is created, named Point, and coordinates (in meters) are entered according to the relevant dimensions in the first section. The document content is shown

in the figure. Open ANSYS Workbench, select Geometry, double-click the Geometry cell, and enter the Design Modeler (DM) program.

(2) Click on the menu bar 【 Point 】, set 【 Details of Point 】 → 【 Coordinates File 】=Import Point document; Set 【 Details of Point 】 → 【 Coordinates Unit 】=Meter, default for the rest, then right-click 【 Generate 】 to generate the point model as shown in the figure.

(3) Click on the toolbar 【 Concept 】 → 【 Line From Point 】 to generate 【 Line1 】, click 【 Line1 】, and set 【 Details of Line1 】 → 【 Operation 】=Add Frozen; Press and hold [Ctrl] on the keyboard, click on points

1 and 2 (as shown in the figure), click on the navigation bar [Point segments]=Apply, click on [Line1], right-click on [Generate].

(4) Click on the toolbar 【 Concept 】 → 【 Line From Point 】 to generate 【 Line 】, click 【 Line 】, set 【 Details of Line1 】 → 【 Operation 】=Add Frozen; Press and hold the [Ctrl] key on the keyboard, then click on point 1 → point

2, point 2 → point 3... point N-1 → point N (as shown in the figure), and click on the navigation bar [Point segments]=Apply.

(5) Use steps

3 and 4 to complete the line modeling process, as shown in the figure.

. Note: When modeling line bodies in Workbench, it is easy to select too few or too many points, resulting in a lack of line bodies or an additional line body. In this case, it is difficult to find this extra line body. The following figure shows the method to deal with this problem.

(6) Create a section: Click on the toolbar 【 Concept 】 → 【 Cross Section 】 → 【 Rectangular Tube 】 to generate a 50mm × 40mm × 4mm square tube 【 RectTube1 】, set 【 Dimensions 】 W1=0.05m, W2=0.04m, t1=0.004m, t2=0.004m, t3=0.004m, t4=
